We're in Chamonix and all is going well so far.  We got dropped off here late yesterday morning by a shuttle driver who became increasingly grumpy about our uncertainty as to our precise destination, and who ultimately dropped us in a random spot on a narrow road where we had to schlep our stuff quite a way through the snow.  Luckily, we were all in good spirits!  Spent the rest of the day yesterday checking out the town and getting settled in, renting skis, having a typical French meal (i.e. one that lasts 2 1/2 hours).    Today we hit the slopes at Le Tour, which proved to be worth the long, windy, crowded bus ride.  The scenery was fabulous and the skiing was perfect.  Tomorrow, we will try another ski area that promises more chairlifts and fewer "teleskis" (pommel lifts).  Every moment has been an adventure so far, including our 90 minute trek around town this evening to find all the ingredients for our dinner.  We're still a bit jet-lagged, but it is primarily due to the rowdy partiers in the street outside our apartment at all hours of the night (no exaggeration).  Our happiness and sense of adventure are certainly overcoming the minor inconveniences so far.

Wine and yummy paninis in Geneva for our first dinner of our trip.  Lots of snow falling from the sky and much more in the forecast.  Not a bad start to our adventure!  Now, if we can just get a good night's sleep . . .
